Many breeders have chosen to work solely with traditional Ragdoll lines.
Only a handful of Ragdoll breeders have fallen in love with their lush beauty, darker coats and exotic eye colour, and have chosen to continue with these old lines.
They are known as minks.
They come in three varieties, depending on the intensity of their coat colour. There are mink, sepia and solid.
Mink and Traditional are two pure Ragdolls with the same personality.
More importantly, they have the same characteristics.
They are big, kind and docile. There are a few differences between them...
THE MINK
Unlike traditional Ragdolls, which are born white, minks are born coloured. They come in all the traditional colours and patterns. A mink's coat is thicker and fluffier and has a darker, richer colour at the points than the traditional Ragdoll. A mink's body colour is a few shades lighter than their points. Ragdoll Mink have Aqua coloured eyes (which can vary from blue with just a hint of green to almost entirely green). To produce a Mink at least one of the parents must be a mink, sepia, or solid.
THE SEPIA
Sepia Ragdolls are born with an almost solid colour that deepens into an incredibly dark coat rich in colour. Sepias are considerably darker than traditional Ragdolls and Minks. While other coat types have a specific eye colour, Sepia Ragdolls can have gold to green eyes. Sepia Ragdolls have the thickest and richest coat of all Ragdolls, and they also have the least contrast between their point colour and their body.
THE SOLID
The Ragdoll has the particularity of being entirely plain: the eyes are gold or green and the extremities are the same colour as the body, but it is definitely a Ragdoll.
This is the darkest coat density to be found in this breed.
Until now, Ragdoll has only been recognised in Colorpoint.
From May 2025, other darker colours will also be recognised but will be called ‘Cherubs’.
Cherubs can be crossed with a Ragdoll and the kittens in the litter will be either Ragdolls (in the case of Point kittens) or Cherubs (in the case of Mink, Sepia or Solid kittens).
